Summary

Started sailing in 1974 at the age of 11. Have sailed (race and/or cruise) in Puerto Rico, US & British Virgin Islands, St Martin, St Barths, Antigua, Key West, Tampa Bay, Gulf Of Mexico, Long Island Sound (CT,NY,RI), Cape Cod, and Block Island over the last 30 years. Have sailed on over 50 different sailboats from a 7' Pram to a Custom Bill Tripp 60', and a 45' Leopard Catamaran and can perform any position from foredeck to skipper.

From 1995  to 2004 I sailed/raced around Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico at least once a week for over 40 weeks per year, on various boats but mainly as crew of a J/109 (35') named Mariah.

Since 2004 I live, sail and race in Puerto Rico where I cruise with my family aboard our Hunter 376 ˇNada Mas! and also crew often on a Jeanneau SO 52 and a Beneteau 305.

Knowledge of the following:

  • Navigation charts
  • Use and understand lights and buoys
  • Navigation Rules  
  • Docking mono-hulls up to 54' and catamarans up to 45'
  • Anchoring & anchorage selection (based on sea bed, swinging room, and shelter)
  • Anchor line scope appropriate for wind/sea conditions
  • Setting stern anchor when appropriate
  • Night sailing in a variety of locations and conditions
  • Basics of Electrical systems, water systems, and also basic knowledge of Diesel engines operation
  • Sail reefing, furling, and headsail changes in heavy weather
  • Man overboard recovery procedures
  • Charter planning & provisioning
